Home - Renovated first home, taken back to brick

Moved In - Around 2018

Bio - Stacey, her husband and their three little boys. First-time buyers who renovated a run-down home from top to bottom, and love hosting parties and dinners.

Editors Note - This one is a little different, because Stacey's home isn't a new build. It's a real renovation story, and there's plenty in it to borrow for a new build too. The house was completely run down when they bought it, and her husband took it back to brick on his own: walls down, a new bathroom, kitchen, windows and garden, and every ceiling and wall freshly plastered.

Since then they've made it exactly what they want, with three small boys in tow! They've redone the bathroom, hallway and lounge, and when Stacey got in touch in 2022 they were halfway through an extension adding an extra bedroom and a bigger kitchen diner. The finished look is calm and pared back: Slaked Lime Mid walls, panelling, warm neutral textures and the odd black accent.

Ideas to Borrow for a New Build

  • Panel a plain wall. Simple panelling, painted the same soft white as the walls, adds character to a box-fresh room.

  • Upcycle flat-pack. Stacey turned IKEA PAX units into wardrobes that look built in.

  • Keep to a tight palette. One warm white throughout, with black accents, feels calm and still works with busy family life.

  • Layer texture. Fringed cushions, textured fabrics, linen throws and cane bring warmth to pale schemes, and the cushion covers were £3!
